Dragon Boat Festival

These are zong-zi which the Chinese eat on Duan Wu Jie along with going down to the river and watch the dragon boat races. Duan Wu Jie always falls on fifth day of the fifth month of the Lunar calendar. Today is that day.

About com has a pretty good write-up on Duan Wu Jie and the customs associated with it.

I've never heard of this before, but talking to a friend before she started eating her "zong" for dinner the other night, she explained to me the significance of this special day. I haven't ate one of these things in such a long time. I have a craving for them now. Oye!

Just hop down to Chinatown and satisfy your craving. Actually some restaurants carry them year round. Aren't you glad to live in Vancouver?
