Just patch it

We have the nicotine patch to help those who want to kick the coffin nail habit. Saw this ad for a weight losing patch. Does it really work or somebody just hitched himself to the obese-driven wagon? Even if it does help in losing weight, there is no way a person can get a body like hers without hitting the gym. So is this ad misleading?

Street art

Came in from the North Shores the other day. Happened to stop in front of this while waiting for a car to complete a left turn.

Same place different time

These photos were taken over a few months at the location, not exactly the same spot.

OMA

This is phrase II of a condo project in Burnaby. This is along a fairly long block which is void trees. Guess this is the developer's answer to the project's lack of greenery.

Retaining wall

Vancouver is pretty hilly so retaining walls are a common sight. However, it is pretty rare to have a number of consecutive houses whose retaining walls are of the same design and material.

Flamingo

This reminded me of a company specialized in placing plastic flamingos on people's front lawn to mark a birthday or anniversary. May be the company is still around but I haven't seen their plastic flamingos for a long long time.

Produce store

Passed by this produce outlet and saw this display of fruit along its store front. This is the first time that I see a store displayed just fruit. Normally it is a mixture of fruit and vegetable.

For sale

Can't believe they are trying to sell this. Not because it is in bad shape rather they live in a nice big house and certainly don't need the money. I mean the $20 will buy enough gas for their SUV to go to the supermarket. Far better for them to give it to one of the many non-profit organizations and bring true joy to some child.

Correlation at the pump?

On Friday crude oil price dropped by almost US$5 and was cited as the reason for lowered the stock markets world-wide. This was the price at the pump this morning. It was less than a penny lower than Monday's posted price. So is there a correlation between crude price and price at the pump?

City Square

Located right across the street from Vancouver City Hall and along one of the city's busiest thoroughfare with a good mixture of office and residential buildings within walking distance. Yet it had a very difficult time finding and retaining tenants.

Cat

Saw this cat rolling on the lawn the other day. Decided to capture it with the Touch. What do you know? The cat saw or sensed my present, came over and started to rub against my leg which was when I took the second photo.

Etching

From a distance I saw him seating there with hos head down and the occasion flame and smoke. As I get closer I realized he was using a powerful heavy duty magnifying glass to burn and etching intricate designs onto the bamboo stick. He refused my request for a close of him and his work.

June bride

A restaurant in Richmond seems determined to land more than its share of the wedding reception/banquet business. These are just a sample of its window display.

View from the window

Recently a neighbour entered the hospital. During the visit we noticed from her bed she has a spectacular view of False Creek and the highrises with the North Shores mountains as backdrop.

Almost there

Okay. We are just a bit over a penny before price at the pump reaches the psychological barrier of C$1.50 per liter. The next bad news coming out the Middle East or USA should push it over.

The cirque is in town

The bright colour tents in front of BC Place along Quebec and Pacific Blvd. means only one thing, the Cirque du Soleil is in town again.

Path

This path runs along a new condo development. So far there are two towers only. From the looks of things there are room for more. Guess the developer is waiting to see which way the economy goes before committing more money.

Not acceptable

Saw a couple bags of grass cuttings seating on the curb after the recent weekly refuge pickup. On one bag is a green sticker. Being the nosy type, I went over to have a look.

Apparently these bags are deemed too heavy. So much for buying the bigger bags. Same goes for using the blower's mulch feature.

I really like the second reason "Bag is not clear". How do they know it is garden clippings or grass if the bag is not clear? X-ray vision, perhaps?

A surprise

Don't go to Tim Horton's that often. Yesterday a friend suggested afternoon coffee at the Lougheed and Gilmore location. Thought the cup was more colourful than their normal dull-looking brownish one. It after we finished and I was playing with the empty cup then I realized it is promoting Tim's annual summer camp.

After seeing the June 4, 2008 date my mind started to calculate the number of days left. Then it struck me that today was June 12. I was pretty bowled over by the fact they are still using promotional cups for a past event which is something I would expect from a mom-and-pop operation. Certainly not from a multi-national operation. Or is it just this location? Should I go and check out another Tim Horton's?

Names

This Skytrain model has been around since 1986. They may had publicized it at the time and I don't remembered but was surprised the other day to see that they had names for some of these carts.

Breaking through

The sun is trying to break through the layers of heavy cloud during one of this year's unusual cold rainy days.

SFU

Until the recent government announcement the Lower Mainland had only two universities. SFU, sitting on top of Burnaby Mountain, is one of the two. It now has a downtown campus, Harbour Centre, and a Surrey campus.
