West coast culture

One of the West Coast images people west of the Rockies has is us seating on sidewalk cafes sipping coffee. After all Starbucks did started its worldwide march in this part of the world. This overflowed bin on the corner of Burrard and Alberni seems to confirmed that Starbucks is still holds a commanding lead over its rivals.

Nurseries














It has been an abnormal cold spring. The number of sunny days are low even by our Vancouver standard. When the forecast for the Victoria Day long weekend finally has some Spring if not Summer flavours we decided to visit some nurseries in the Lower Mainland.

Map


An outdoor map of the Lower Mainland on the wall of the Block Building. This map is over 30 years old. Omitted are today's fast growing municipalities, such as Maple Ridge and Langley, which at the time were primarily farm land.

Yes, Port Moody and Port Coquitlam are lumped into Coquitlam. The District of North Vancouver is not separated from the City of North Vancouver either.
